Breaking into Broadcasting: Three Graduates Share Their Journey
Three Bayan College Media Studies graduates reflect on their first years in regional broadcasting and journalism.
When three Bayan College Media Studies graduates sat down for coffee on campus, the conversation quickly turned from memories of studio classes to the realities of working in a fast-moving media industry.
Maryam Al-Rawahi joined Oman TV as a junior producer six months after completing her BA in Broadcasting. She now helps produce a weekly cultural programme watched across the Sultanate.
The First Year Reality
Nothing quite prepares a graduate for live production. The deadlines are tighter, the stakes are higher, and every decision has to serve the audience.
You spend four years learning theory, but the real lessons start when you have fifteen seconds until air.

Fatima Al-Harthi took a different route. After several applications and interviews, she joined a regional digital newsroom where she now reports on economic and social development stories.
Advice for Current Students
All three graduates offered similar advice to current Bayan students.
- Start building a portfolio before graduation.
- Take internships seriously, even when the assignments feel small.
- Develop strong Arabic and English writing skills.
- Pitch ideas early and learn from rejection.
Their paths are different, but each began with the same foundation: practice, mentorship, and the confidence to keep improving.
