Guest Lecture Series: Industry Leaders on the Future of Communication
Three communication professionals joined Bayan students for a guest lecture series on emerging trends, digital skills, and career pathways.
Bayan College's latest guest lecture series brought three communication professionals to campus for focused conversations with students on the changing landscape of media, public relations, and digital content.
The series ran across three consecutive Tuesdays and drew attendance from across the college, including students from English Studies and Media programmes.
Session One: Digital Content Strategy
The first session was led by a senior content strategist with experience in regional broadcast and digital publishing. She discussed how editorial planning has shifted toward platform-native thinking and how journalists and content producers now need to understand audience behaviour data.
Understanding your platform is no longer optional. Whether you are writing a news report or designing a campaign, you need to know where it will live and how it will be read.

Session Two: Public Relations in a Transparent World
The second session focused on how organisations communicate in an environment of increasing public scrutiny. The speaker discussed crisis communication, ethical considerations, and the growing role of internal communication in maintaining organisational culture.
Session Three: Careers in a Changing Landscape
The final session was deliberately practical. The speaker walked students through portfolio development, job application strategy, and the realities of entry-level work in communication fields.
- Students were encouraged to identify three sectors they want to work in before graduation.
- The speaker shared examples of strong and weak portfolio structures.
- A thirty-minute Q&A extended the session significantly beyond the scheduled time.
Student feedback from all three sessions was strongly positive. The series will return next semester with new speakers.
